5 Things to Consider When Choosing a Dance Studio

December 11, 20223 min read

Finding the best dance studio for your child can feel daunting! That's why we've put together this article for you to learn the 5 Things You Should Consider When Choosing a Dance Studio.

Let's jump into the topic to discover a perfect dancing studio for your little kiddo!

Here are 5 Things To Consider when choosing a dance studio:

1. A Strong Studio Faculty

Some dance schools hire teachers not even out of high school with little to no experience in giving dance classes, leading to frustration for both the kids and the parents. Due to their lack of growth & progress, the kids lose interest in dancing. So always look for a studio with (keyword!) attentive as well as experienced staff.

Try to learn about their studio on social media, and pay attention to their level of focus on the students during class. Make sure they are engaged with the children and also encouraging!

2. Dance Studio Class Size

When children start learning dance, they need someone to pay attention to them at every step and guide them. That's why a healthy ratio of class students to teachers is critical.

It would be best to look for a children's dance studio with no more than 12 students in a class. Or if it's a larger class, that there be more instructors. Personal attention to each student is critical.

Small class sizes make it easy for a choreographer to monitor and keep an eye on every child so little kids stay focused during dance sessions. Moreover, it will be easy for the instructor to keep a track record of every student and progress in dance steps.

3. Dance Style

There are many dance styles, including jazz, lyrical, ballet, Hip hop, Lyrical, Tap, and many more. All kids have different levels of interest and admiration for these styles. Serious instruction, or fun instruction? Are they looking for a competition school or a non-competition school?

That's why it is recommended that you choose a children's dance studio that serves the dance interest of your child. Be sure to search for a studio that offers classes in the dance style your kid wants to learn.

4. Dance Studio Environment

It plays a major role in students' experience, and you should consider the following points before selecting a children's dance studio so they can learn how to dance without worry.

⦁ Do they feel comfortable in the atmosphere?

⦁ Are they connecting with staff and instructors?

⦁ Are staff communicative and encouraging?

⦁ Can they provide first aid to your children in case of an emergency?

Furthermore, the classroom should have observation windows so parents can check their children's progress without disrupting other students and trainers.

This is where trial classes come in to play! Make sure to book a trial class at every studio possible. You can book one here for our studio, Dance Your Dreams!

5. Studio Flooring

Dancing puts stress and pressure on the bones and joints, which if executed on a flooring with poor support, could lead to injury.

A good studio flooring is made of a high-density foam system which absorbs shocks and relieves stress from bones, ensuring no children get injured.

Bathrooms should also be clean and sanitized to protect children from infectious diseases.

There should be full-length mirrors in the studio. This will facilitate faster learning as students can identify mistakes in steps and practice them more.

Classes should have high-quality audio systems for the music to inspire :)

And those are 5 important things to consider when choosing a dance studio!

We strongly encourage you to sign up for a trial class at every studio possible to ensure your child finds the best possible fit, but while you're here why not schedule a free trial class at Dance Your Dreams?!

You can schedule that here (scroll to the center of the page and complete the free trial class form, and we'll be in touch!)
